Jayne’s Baby Bank Brynmawr store is on its last legs. Despite receiving £9,528 since April from Caerphilly Council, Torfaen Council, Blaenau Gwent Council, and Risca Council to cover operating costs, is the end in sight for another of Jayne’s ventures?

In a plea to her customers, Jayne states, “Unfortunately, if sales do not increase at our Brynmawr shop, we will be closing it at the end of the first-year tenancy.” This is shocking, especially since all shops are on a reduced rate given the charitable status bestowed upon them at the time of lease signing. In a video on her Brynmawr group, Jayne can be heard stating how rude her customers are in requesting help, but she emphasizes that support is only given to vulnerable families if they donate to her stores first. In essence, you have to pay-to-play for the favour of Jayne’s Baby Bank and Charity Shops. She also equates the current situation to Aberbargoed, where she was ultimately evicted.

As it stands, there are several stores, all of which are run by volunteers. She has digital stores run by volunteers and car boot sales run by volunteers. All this income goes to the illegal charity, yet even with local funding from the public and local councils, she says she struggles to fund the stores. How much longer until the local authorities step in? We know they are watching closely.
