Right, so, afternoon, guys.
It's been a lovely day, hasn't it?
What a difference, a bit of sun mix.
Right, so I've got this lovely little book that's come in, and this is why I can't have everybody dealing with donations that come in, and this is why we've started the donation centre, because somebody would have seen this and probably binned it or checked it in the 50p section,
but this is worth nearly £100.
Okay?
They're going for £100 online.
I'm not going to take the binding off or the letters out, because I think that's a little bit of the history, really, isn't it?
But these, this is, I think it's dated 1889, this book.
It's going to be £100.
Obviously it'll be excluded from discount and everything, it'll go to Blackwood, in one of the glass cupboards there.
But you know, there's a lot of history with this book, and this is why not everybody can go through the donations, because some people are not looking for things like this, you know, some people are only focused on clothes.
You've got to be focused on the whole story, because how many nappies could we buy for £100?
You know, yes, I've said it before, you can sell books all day for £10 for a pound.
I mean, who are these people buying these books for £10 for a pound?
I mean, how are they getting through £10 in a week, I'd like to know.
They're all seller owners.
Any charity shop could sell them £10 for a pound, but you're not an expert fundraiser if you're selling £10 for a pound, and not checking every single book.
Novels should never be £10 for a pound.
Just because you're selling stuff really cheap in your charity shops doesn't mean to say you know what you're doing, because like I said, anybody could sell it for £50.
It's the amount of research and restoration and things that goes into our work.
You know, and there's other people that do it like us as well, that I think makes the difference.
And this one tiny, tiny little item.
You know, it could have been missed.
It could have been trapped in the cheap box, you know.
So that's why we've got to check everything.
That's why I've got all those books by my desk.
That's why I've got all those other items by my desk.
Because they all need researching, and that's where the time consuming comes in.
It's very rewarding, but it's time consuming as well.
And this is why we need volunteers on the ground in the shops, running the shops, so that I can get down here and check everything.
Or, you know, Daniel's very good at picking up stuff.
You know, Steve has done it before in Pontypool as well.
We need people who can identify these items quickly and get them priced.
And we also need the time to be able to do it.
Because we don't want to be rushed when we're doing it, because everything needs researching.
I've had this issue for a week to double check on it.
And ask some other people about it as well.
Hello, you've gone speeding past.
There were speed bumps out there.
But what a lovely little piece of history.
And like I said, I'm going to leave the binding on it, because there's a little bit more history in there.
Look, isn't there?
It's gone 1909 on that, look.
I don't know what it is, because I don't want to rip it.
But this is a very old book.
It's very lovely.
So it's going to go up to Blackwood for £100 for the collectors to have a look at.
It's not for everybody, but then we have stuff for other people as well.
We have our £2 section, we have our 50p section.
Blackwood is where we put most of our antiques.
We do have some in Pontypool as well.
But that's where we put most of our antique items.
And valuable items.
